3M Perfect-It Random Orbital Medium Wool Compounding Pad 6" — Hookit-backed, medium-cut for controlled defect removal

This single-sided 3M wool compounding pad is built for the 3M Perfect-It Random Orbital Polishing System and formulated to deliver controlled cut without introducing swirl marks, haze, or holograms. Designed for use with Perfect-It Random Orbital Compound, the pad reduces sling versus rotary methods and lowers the risk of burn-through on fresh or cured paint. Its Hookit backing makes pad changes fast and secure so technicians spend less time swapping tooling and more time finishing panels.

How does this pad improve removal of paint defects without harming clear coat?

The medium wool face balances aggressiveness and safety: it removes mild to moderate defects yet is less aggressive than coarse wool, helping avoid excess heat and finish damage. Paired with the matching compound and correct orbital speed, the pad produces predictable cut with minimal haze.

• Medium-cut wool fibers engineered for compound loading and removal
• Works with Perfect-It compounds to minimize swirl and holograms
• Lower sling and less heat than rotary systems reduces risk of burn-through
• Available in 5" and 6" diameters to match common orbital plates

What workflow improvements can a detailer expect using this pad?

Using 3M Perfect-It pads as part of the matched system streamlines paint finishing operations. Consistent pad performance helps avoid rework and keeps cycle times predictable, while Hookit attachment reduces downtime for pad changes.

• Faster pad swaps with 3M Hookit backing for reduced downtime
• Reliable cut so fewer passes are needed to correct defects
• Designed to withstand oscillating motion for long service life
• Included SOP guides available for common collision-repair processes

Which surfaces and paint stages are appropriate for this wool compounding pad?

The pad is suitable for both fresh and cured automotive paints and clear coats when used within the Perfect-It Random Orbital system. It is ideal for pre-finishing compounding before switching to a finer pad or finishing polish to refine gloss.

• Freshly cured clear coats where controlled cut is required
• Cured OEM and refinish paints to remove light defects and orange peel
• Transition pad between aggressive compounding and final polishing steps
• Works best when paired with 3M Perfect-It Random Orbital Compound

Who is this pad intended for? This product targets professional refinishers, collision-repair technicians, and experienced detailers who require dependable medium-level cutting power from a random orbital system. It suits shops that follow standardized SOPs and use the 3M Perfect-It system of pads, liquids, and tools. Note: intended for industrial/occupational use; not for consumer sale or household use.
