ARMORDILLO 5" Foldable Rear Hitch Step — Matte Black Steel, Fits 2" Class 3 Receiver, Non-Slip Tread

The Armordillo FD Series 5" Foldable Rear Hitch Step is a heavy-duty, fold-up access step that installs into a 2" Class 3 receiver to give safer, non-slip reach into truck beds, SUV roofs, and cargo areas.

Designed for drivers who need a compact, dependable step at the rear of their vehicle, this Armordillo hitch step combines a reinforced steel build with a textured tread and a matte black powder coat for long-lasting durability. It folds up neatly when not in use, keeps the Armordillo logo visible when stowed, and fits standard Class 3 (2" x 2") hitch receivers — with compatibility across many Class 4 and 5 receivers that accept 2" inserts.

How does this hitch step attach and install?

Installation is straightforward and uses a plug-and-play approach so most users can fit the step without specialty tools. The unit slides into a 2" receiver and secures with the included hardware and standard hitch pin or bolt, making setup quick for most pickup, SUV, and van owners.

• Fits 2" x 2" Class 3 hitch receivers (also fits some Class 4/5 with 2" aperture)
• Includes foldable step bar and required installation hardware
• Secures with standard hitch pin/bolt (not repeatedly included items)
• Plug-and-play design for fast, tool-minimal mounting

What safety and durability features should I expect?

The FD Series step is built from steel with a premium black powder coat that resists rust, chips, and corrosion in everyday use. The treaded stepping surface provides traction and skid resistance, while the structure is engineered to withstand body weight and regular use without flexing.

• Durable steel construction for repeated standing and entry access
• Matte black powder-coated finish to prevent corrosion and chipping
• Tread pattern on top for improved grip in wet or dirty conditions
• Fold-up design reduces snag points and protects the step when not needed

How compact is the foldable design and how does it affect clearance?

The fold-up mechanism tucks the step neatly against the hitch when not in use, minimizing extra length behind the vehicle and reducing the chance of catching on obstacles. With a 5" wide stepping surface, the design balances user comfort and low profile so it rarely interferes with parking or backing maneuvers.

• Overall stepping width: 5 inches for a slim but stable foothold
• Folds up to sit close to the receiver, lowering rear overhang
• Armordillo logo visible on the folded face for brand identity
• Designed to avoid obstructing trailer hitch wiring and sensors when stowed

Who is this for? The Armordillo FD Series 5" Foldable Rear Hitch Step is ideal for pickup and SUV owners, tradespeople, outdoor enthusiasts, and parents who need reliable rear access without a permanent protrusion. If you use your roof, bed, or cargo area frequently and want a low-profile, slip-resistant step that installs quickly into a 2" Class 3 receiver, this product offers a practical blend of safety, durability, and compact storage. It’s also a smart option for fleet vehicles and service vans where quick, dependable access matters.
