The Blue Sea Systems MRBF 80A terminal fuse is a high-interrupt-capacity, ignition-protected marine fuse that provides visible blown indication and is color-coded for rapid amperage identification.
Designed for demanding DC power installations aboard boats and other vehicles, this MRBF (Molded Blade Replacement Fuse) delivers a 10,000 AIC (Ampere Interruption Capacity) at 14V DC, meeting ABYC expectations for main DC circuit protection on large battery banks. The fuse is intended for use with Blue Sea terminal fuse blocks PN 5191 or PN 2151 and must not be mounted directly to a battery terminal. Its clear inspection window and ignition-protected construction make it practical for confined engine compartments where safety and quick troubleshooting matter.
The MRBF 80A is rated for 10,000 AIC at 14V DC, which means it can safely interrupt very large fault currents typical in main DC distribution systems. This high interrupt rating reduces the risk of catastrophic failure and helps the installation meet industry safety standards.
This fuse must be paired with an approved terminal fuse block (Blue Sea PN 5191 or PN 2151). Do not attach the MRBF directly to battery posts; using an appropriate block ensures a secure, serviceable connection and correct electrical clearances.
Yes — the MRBF 80A is ignition protected, allowing installation in gasoline engine compartments where standards require spark suppression and reduced ignition risk. The unit’s sealed construction and clear inspection window support safe, code-conscious installations.
Blue Sea designed the MRBF with a transparent inspection window so you can visually confirm a blown element without removing the fuse. This visible indication speeds troubleshooting and reduces downtime compared with sealed, non-indicating fuses.
Who is this for: The Blue Sea Systems MRBF 80A is aimed at marine electricians, boat owners, and professional installers working on large DC distribution systems who need a high-interrupt-capacity, ignition-protected fuse with easy visual fault detection. It’s ideal for main DC circuit protection on yachts, commercial vessels, and any installation where ABYC-level protection, safe engine-compartment installation, and fast diagnostics are priorities.
Q: Can I install the MRBF 80A directly on the battery terminal?
A: No. The MRBF 80A must be installed in a compatible terminal fuse block (PN 5191 or PN 2151) and not mounted directly to the battery terminal.
Q: Is the MRBF 80A safe for gasoline engine compartments?
A: Yes. The fuse is ignition protected, making it suitable for installation in gasoline engine spaces when installed per guidelines.
