Car Protection Pros Paint Protection Film Roll 4×48 in — 3M Scotchgard Clear, 8mil Bulk

3M Scotchgard Clear Paint Protection Film Roll (4 x 48 in) is a clear, 8mil polyurethane film with adhesive backing designed to protect automotive paint from chips, bug damage, and everyday wear while remaining nearly invisible once installed.

This bulk roll from Car Protection Pros gives professional detailers and DIY enthusiasts a continuous length of clear protective film that adheres to painted surfaces. Engineered by 3M, the Scotchgard surface protection film combines thin, tough polyurethane with a pressure-sensitive adhesive so it conforms to curves and shields paint without altering the finish. It’s sized for trimming to custom shapes, patching high-wear zones, or covering entire panels when needed.

How does this film protect vehicle paint?

The film creates a sacrificial transparent layer that absorbs the impact of small stones, road debris, and insect residue, reducing direct damage to factory paint. Because it is 8mil thick, it balances durability with flexibility so it resists tearing while conforming to complex panel contours.

• 8mil polyurethane body resists small chips and abrasions
• Pressure-sensitive adhesive holds film in place without damaging factory paint
• Designed to prevent residue build-up from bugs and tar
• Can be trimmed for wheel wells, bumper edges, and mirrors

Will the film be visible after installation?

When applied correctly, the Scotchgard film is formulated to be virtually transparent and integrate with your vehicle’s clearcoat, preserving gloss and color. Proper surface prep and skilled application reduce edge lift and visible seams, keeping the protective layer discreet.

• Nearly invisible when installed on clean, smooth paint
• Low-profile adhesive minimizes texture or haze
• Can be smoothed to hide edges and overlaps
• Maintains original paint sheen and color depth

How is the 4-by-48-inch bulk roll used for installations?

The 4 x 48 inch format provides a long, narrow length that is easy to cut to shape for spot repairs or to cover extended trim areas. Installers can measure and trim patterns on the roll, apply with a slip solution and squeegee, and heat-conform corners and curves for a seamless fit.

• Roll length allows multiple panels or patch pieces from one supply
• Trim-to-fit for bumpers, hoods, door edges, and mirror caps
• Compatible with standard PPF installation techniques (slip solution, squeegee, heat)
• Step-by-step installation guidance available online for best results

How durable is the film and what maintenance is required?

The film’s polyurethane construction gives it resistance to UV, abrasion, and staining, but longevity depends on exposure and care. Routine washing, avoiding harsh chemicals, and periodic inspection will keep the film performing well and extend its service life.

• UV-stable material reduces yellowing over time
• Wash with mild automotive soap and soft mitts to prevent scratches
• Avoid strong solvents that can degrade adhesive or film surface
• Inspect edges for lift and reseal if necessary
