The Compliance Parts LMC5 is a plug-and-play solid-state module that simulates a working column lock to prevent or repair steering-column-lock failures on 1997–2004 C5 Corvettes.
Many C5 Corvettes experienced steering-column lock failures that trigger dashboard warnings (Pull Key, Wait 10 Seconds, Service Column Lock) and can cause a 2 mph fuel cutoff or leave the steering wheel physically stuck. The LMC5 module is engineered to reproduce the correct electronic signals of a healthy column lock without altering factory wiring or interfering with recall hardware. It installs in the passenger-footwell area and is reversible, offering a non-destructive solution for owners who want to avoid being stranded or needing costly mechanical replacements.
The LMC5 generates the same electrical response the car expects from a working column lock, preventing the control unit from throwing fault codes that reduce drivability. Because it is fully solid-state with no mechanical parts, there is nothing inside the module to wear out or seize.
Owners of many 1997–2004 C5 Corvettes have reported column lock issues; specific susceptibility depends on transmission and market. The LMC5 covers the common failure modes seen across those model years and can be selected in different kit configurations based on whether your wheel currently turns.
Installation is designed to be minimally invasive and does not require cutting, splicing, or removing recall hardware. The module mounts in the passenger footwell and connects using existing harness locations, so the factory condition can be restored at any time.
If the wheel is physically stuck, Compliance Parts offers an Unlocker accessory that works with the LMC5 to free the column. For convenience, a combo kit adds the basic hand tools needed so you won’t need additional equipment to finish the job.
Who is this for? The LMC5 is aimed at C5 Corvette owners who want a reliable, reversible solution to column lock electrical failures—whether you’re addressing intermittent fault messages, preventing a possible immobilizing fault, or recovering from a wheel that is stuck locked. It’s especially useful for DIY enthusiasts who prefer avoiding permanent modifications, technicians who service clusters of Corvettes, and owners looking for a cost-effective alternative to repeated mechanical replacements. If you need help choosing the correct kit for your situation, Compliance Parts provides U.S.-based phone support to guide selection and installation.
Q: Will the LMC5 void my Corvette recall repairs?
A: No. The LMC5 installs without altering recall hardware or wiring and is fully reversible.
Q: Do I need special tools to install the LMC5?
A: Basic hand tools are all that’s required; the combo includes 1/4 and 5/16 wrenches if needed.
