Driven Racing Oil BR30 is a ZDDP-rich conventional 5W-30 break-in oil formulated to protect cams, lifters, bearings and help piston rings seat during the first 400 miles, dyno pulls or a night of racing.
Designed and used by professional engine builders, BR30 is a purpose-built break-in lubricant that balances anti-wear chemistry with low detergent levels to encourage proper surface mating of new or freshly rebuilt engines. It is a conventional (mineral-based) 5W-30 formula with elevated zinc and phosphorus for cam and lifter protection, compatible with high-octane race fuels and methanol, and suited for hydraulic lifter valve trains and drag or restrictor-plate engines.
BR30 contains higher-than-usual concentrations of ZDDP (zinc and phosphorus) and a tailored additive package to form a protective anti-wear film on cam lobes, lifters and valve train components. Low detergent content encourages that sacrificial film to remain in place during the initial run-in period, reducing metal-to-metal wear while surfaces finish-mate.
Use BR30 for the engine break-in phase: typically the first 400 street miles, a single competitive night, or for dyno power pulls following assembly. After the break-in period, change to your chosen long-term engine oil to restore detergency and standard additive levels appropriate for ongoing service intervals.
BR30 is formulated to tolerate methanol and high-octane race fuels commonly used in competition, and its mineral base makes it compatible with many engine architectures. It is particularly well-suited to OEM rebuilds, hydraulic lifter valve trains, restrictor-plate and drag racing applications where sacrificial anti-wear chemistry is desired during initial operation.
Who is this product for? Driven BR30 is aimed at engine builders, racers and DIY enthusiasts who need a dedicated break-in lubricant that prioritizes cam and ring seating protection during the critical first hours of engine life. If you assemble or rebuild engines with hydraulic lifters, install a new camshaft, or perform competitive dyno and race break-ins, BR30 provides the anti-wear chemistry and viscosity profile (SAE 5W-30) to protect moving parts while surfaces properly mate. Always follow the engine builder's break-in procedure and perform a full oil change to a long-term service oil after the break-in interval.
Q: Can BR30 be used with hydraulic lifters?
A: Yes. BR30 is formulated specifically for hydraulic lifter valve trains and provides extra ZDDP protection during break-in.
Q: When should I switch oils after using BR30?
A: Change BR30 out after the break-in period—typically about 400 miles, one night of racing, or after dyno runs—then install your regular service oil.
