The Factor 55 Fast FID is a compact, two-piece rope-splicing tool that lets you repair and splice synthetic winch lines quickly without tape or extra equipment.
If you use synthetic winch rope on your off-road vehicle, recovery kit, or tow rig, keeping a compact, reliable splicing tool in your pack saves time and reduces downtime. The Fast FID pairs a machined billet-aluminum body with a unique wire-grip to hold rope ends securely, enabling trail-side splices and repairs in minutes. Anodized for corrosion resistance, it’s built to withstand repeated field use.
The tool’s two-piece design combines a rigid fid with an integrated wire-grip that locks the rope while you work. That eliminates the need to wrap line with tape or improvise clamps, so each splice moves through steps more efficiently. The solid construction also prevents flexing, keeping the splice symmetrical and reliable.
The Fast FID is intended for synthetic winch lines and similar braided ropes commonly used for vehicle recovery. It works best with soft, braided synthetic fibers rather than stiff steel cable. Check your rope diameter against the tool’s recommended range to ensure a snug, controllable fit before starting a splice.
Factor 55 machines the Fast FID from billet aluminum to maintain strength while keeping weight low. The anodized finish helps protect against corrosion and abrasion in outdoor environments. Its compact footprint fits in recovery kits, glove boxes, or tool rolls without adding bulk or weight.
Using the Fast FID involves inserting the fid into the rope core, engaging the wire-grip to hold the end, and performing the chosen splice technique to rebuild or fuse the termination. Because the tool secures the rope without extra tying or taping, most standard rope splices and basic repair stitches go faster and cleaner than improvised methods.
Who is this for? The Factor 55 Fast FID is aimed at off-roaders, recovery specialists, tow operators, and anyone who relies on synthetic winch lines and wants a fast, reliable tool for on-the-spot splicing and repairs. If you need a lightweight, durable splicing aid that slips into your recovery kit or glove compartment and reduces repair time on the trail, the Fast FID is built for that role.
Q: Can I use the Fast FID on steel cable?
A: No. The Fast FID is designed for synthetic braided winch lines, not heavy-gauge steel cable.
Q: Does the tool require extra tape or clamps?
A: No. The integrated wire-grip holds rope ends so you don’t need tape or separate clamps.
