The Hot Cams 8.90mm Complete Shim Kit HCSHIM00 is a full set of hardened 4140-steel valve shims in 0.04mm increments, designed to let you restore and tune valve clearances on a wide range of KTM four-stroke models from 2005–2017.
Keeping accurate valve clearances is essential for peak performance and engine longevity on KTM dirt and enduro bikes. This Hot Cams kit supplies three shims at every increment between 1.72mm and 2.60mm, laser-etched for instant size recognition. Forged from durable 4140 steel, these shims are sized specifically for 8.90mm shim-under buckets and are built to withstand frequent maintenance cycles.
This kit fits many KTM four-stroke models across different years, including 250, 350, 450 and 500 series. Refer to the included model list to confirm compatibility for your exact year and model. If you run a popular SX-F, XC-F, EXC-F or EXC, this kit very likely matches your requirements.
Shims are supplied in 0.04mm steps, with three of each size to give flexibility when adjusting clearances. Laser etching on each shim lets you pick the correct thickness quickly during valve shimming. The three-per-size supply helps when small incremental combinations are needed to hit factory tolerances.
Hot Cams manufactures these shims from 4140 chrome-moly steel, a material chosen for strength and fatigue resistance under high valve-train loads. The forging process produces consistent thickness and roundness so each shim stacks predictably. Designed for routine maintenance, they resist wear and deformation better than softer alternatives.
Basic valve service tools—feeler gauges, valve spring compressor, micrometer or thickness gauge—are all you need to use this kit properly. Work methodically: measure current clearance, calculate required shim thickness, and verify with a final run-in check. Keep used shims organized so you can reuse suitable pieces if still within spec.
Who is this for? If you own a compatible KTM four-stroke from the listed years and do your own valve maintenance—or you’re a professional mechanic running frequent valve services—this Hot Cams shim kit gives a complete, durable, easy-to-identify selection of shims to hit factory-clearance tolerances. It’s best for riders and shops who want reliable, service-grade shims that simplify repeated adjustments without resorting to custom machining or mixed-material parts.
Q: Does this kit include shims for both intake and exhaust?
A: Yes — the kit provides shims in sizes used across intake and exhaust on the listed KTM models; verify your bike’s required diameters before fitting.
Q: Are the shims reusable after removal?
A: Shims can be reused if they remain undamaged and within tolerance; inspect for wear and verify thickness with a micrometer first.
