Lisle 71200 is a compact stud remover designed to grab and extract broken or stubborn studs from engine blocks, exhaust manifolds, cylinder heads and similar mounting surfaces.
When studs shear off flush with a mounting surface, accessing and removing them without harming the surrounding threads can be difficult. The Lisle 71200 Stud Remover is built to seat tightly against the mounting surface and clamp onto studs from 3/8" (10 mm) up to 3/4" (19 mm). It uses a 1/2" square drive and two precision holes to fit the stud diameter securely, helping technicians remove studs quickly while protecting the component’s threads.
The tool's dual-hole design provides a snug fit around the stud so turning force is concentrated on the stud rather than the surrounding material. That reduced slippage lowers the risk of scoring or enlarging threaded bores when extracting a stuck or broken stud.
The Lisle 71200 accommodates a range of common automotive stud diameters from 3/8" (10 mm) to 3/4" (19 mm), making it suitable for many engine and exhaust service tasks. It’s useful wherever studs are recessed, sheared off, or otherwise hard to get a wrench onto.
Fit the appropriate hole over the protruding portion of the stud, seat the tool flush against the mounting surface, then apply steady turning force with a 1/2" square-drive ratchet or breaker bar. If the stud is corroded, consider penetrating lubricant and incremental torque to reduce risk of additional breakage.
Who is this for? The Lisle 71200 Stud Remover is built for professional mechanics, shop technicians, and experienced DIYers who frequently work on engines, exhaust systems, and other assemblies where studs shear or corrode. It’s particularly valuable when a stud breaks off close to its mounting surface and conventional extraction methods risk damaging the bore. Packaged compactly (approximately 5.25" wide × 6.13" high × 2.5" deep), this tool slips into a shop drawer or tool roll for quick access during engine repairs and rebuilds.
Q: What drive size does the Lisle 71200 require?
A: The stud remover is used with a 1/2" square drive, compatible with common ratchets and breaker bars.
Q: Can this tool remove studs broken flush with the surface?
A: Yes—its flush-grip design lets it clamp studs broken very close to the mounting surface for extraction.
