McGard Tailgate Lock for Pickup Trucks — 76029 Black, Stainless Steel Security, No-Removal Design

If you use your truck bed for tools, equipment or cargo, an exposed tailgate is a common theft target—often removed in seconds. The McGard 76029 Premium Tailgate Lock installs quickly with common hand tools, requires no modifications to your vehicle, and stays in place so you can open and close the tailgate without removing the lock. Constructed from stainless steel and polycarbonate components, this lock is designed to deliver durable, everyday protection while keeping operation simple.

How does this lock install and stay out of the way during regular use?

Installation is straightforward and uses the truck’s existing mounting points; there’s no need to remove the lock when opening or closing the tailgate. Once installed, the latch and mechanism operate with the tailgate’s normal motion, so daily access remains unchanged.

• Quick installation with common tools—no drilling or permanent vehicle modification
• Designed to fit specific vehicle backset, cross bore and thickness—verify fitment
• Lock remains installed during normal tailgate operation—no removal required

What materials and build features make it a reliable choice?

The 76029 uses strong yet lightweight stainless steel for the structural components and durable polycarbonate where impact resistance and low weight are beneficial. These materials resist corrosion and everyday wear, providing a balance of strength and longevity for outdoor use.

• Stainless steel structural parts for strength and rust resistance
• Polycarbonate elements for impact resistance and reduced weight
• Manufactured in the United States with globally sourced components

Will the keys match my other locks and what should I know about keying?

McGard tailgate locks use unique key patterns; the key you receive will not match OEM locks or other McGard sets unless specifically ordered keyed alike. Images may show a different key pattern than the one shipped, and multiple sets ordered separately will have distinct keys.

• Unique McGard key pattern—won’t match factory or dealership locks
• Different sets ordered separately will not be keyed alike unless specified
• Key pattern shown in photos may differ from the shipped lock pattern

How do I know this model fits my pickup?

This product is vehicle-specific; proper fit requires measuring your tailgate’s backset, cross bore and thickness or using the manufacturer’s fitment tool. Review fitment notes closely to ensure compatibility before purchase to avoid returns or improper installation.

• Confirm fit with vehicle-specific fitment guide or part finder
• Measure backset, cross bore and tailgate thickness for verification
• No universal fit—application-specific design ensures secure mounting
