Milwaukee M18 FUEL 5-inch Random Orbital Sander — Brushless Cordless, 12,000 OPM (Bare Tool)

The Milwaukee M18 FUEL 5-inch Random Orbital Sander is a cordless, brushless handheld sander designed to deliver up to 12,000 OPM for fast material removal — sold as a bare tool so you can add your preferred M18 battery and charger.

Built for pros and serious DIYers, this sander combines Milwaukee's POWERSTATE brushless motor with the convenience of the M18 battery platform. Its compact 5-inch pad balances surface coverage with control, making it well suited for wood, fiberglass, paint prep and finish sanding. Because it's a bare tool, you get the flexibility to pair it with the M18 battery capacity that matches your jobsite needs.

How much sanding power does this M18 sander produce?

The tool uses Milwaukee's POWERSTATE brushless motor to maintain strong performance under load, delivering up to 12,000 orbits per minute (OPM). That high speed helps remove material quickly while the random-orbit action reduces visible swirl marks compared with straight-line sanders.

• POWERSTATE brushless motor for sustained torque and durability
• 12,000 max OPM under load for faster stock removal
• Random-orbit motion for smoother finishes

What controls and dust management features are included?

The sander includes variable speed control so you can dial back for light finishing or crank it up for aggressive removal. Integrated dust collection ports let you connect to a vacuum or use the built-in dust bag to keep the workspace cleaner.

• Variable speed dial for application-specific control
• Dust port compatible with jobsite vacuums and dust bags
• Ergonomic grip position to reduce user fatigue during extended use

Is this sander easy to use and maintain on the jobsite?

Yes — the compact 5-inch pad and balanced body make it comfortable for one-handed or two-handed operation, improving access in tight areas. Brushless motor design reduces routine maintenance, and replaceable pads and readily available abrasive discs keep downtime low.

• Compact 5" pad for maneuverability in confined spaces
• Tool-free pad changes on compatible models for faster setup
• Brushless motor lowers maintenance compared with brushed alternatives

What should I know about batteries and compatibility?

This unit is sold as a bare tool and requires any Milwaukee M18 battery and charger to operate. Choosing higher-capacity M18 REDLITHIUM batteries will increase run time and lessen interruptions on larger jobs.

• Sold as bare tool — battery and charger not included
• Works with the full line of Milwaukee M18 batteries and chargers
• Higher-capacity batteries extend runtime for demanding tasks

Who is this for? The Milwaukee M18 FUEL 5-inch Random Orbital Sander is aimed at professionals and dedicated hobbyists who want cordless sanding power without being tethered to AC. It's ideal for finishers, carpenters, auto-body techs and remodelers who need a portable, durable sander with high-speed performance. If you already own Milwaukee M18 batteries and want a compact, high-OPM tool for prep and finishing, this bare-tool option lets you expand your kit while leveraging existing batteries and chargers.
