Ortopia's transmission filter for TH700-R4/early 4L60 shallow pans is an all-metal screen replacement kit engineered to restore proper flow and pressure in cable-TV controlled GM transmissions.
This kit is built specifically for TH700-R4 (700R4) and early 4L60 applications that use a shallow, flat-bottom pan (approximately 2" deep). It replaces OE 8667689 and similar part numbers with a durable metal mesh pickup that resists clogging better than felt or plastic filters, and it includes the pan gasket and intake seal required for a complete service. Use this when performing routine maintenance or when diagnosing shifting problems on classic GM RWD cars and trucks from the 1982–1993 era.
Metal mesh provides higher sustained fluid flow versus felt/fiber elements, which can capture fine debris and restrict passages. For transmissions that rely on throttle valve (TV) cable control, consistent line pressure is essential; the metal screen helps maintain that pressure and avoids flow-induced shifting faults.
This Ortopia kit fits TH700-R4 (700R4) and early 4L60 models that have a shallow, flat-bottom pan—commonly found on many GM RWD cars and light trucks from 1982–1993. It will not fit 1994+ 4L60E converters without modification, and it is not compatible with deep-pan variants.
A clogged or incorrect filter can cause harsh 1–2 shifts, slipping, delayed engagement, and irregular throttle valve behavior. Swapping to the correct Ortopia metal-screen filter often remedies those hydraulic symptoms and prevents deterioration that leads to costly rebuilds.
The Ortopia kit contains the all-metal screen filter with a short pickup tube sized for shallow pans, a reusable farpak-style pan gasket, and an intake neck seal. During installation verify TV cable adjustment and inspect the pan and magnet for trapped debris to assess internal wear.
Who is this for: Owners, restorers, and technicians working on classic GM rear-drive vehicles—Corvette, Camaro/Firebird, Caprice/Impala, Silverado/Sierra, Suburban/Blazer and similar 1982–1993 models—who need the correct shallow-pan filter to maintain hydraulic integrity. If you maintain a TH700-R4 or an early 4L60 with a shallow pan and value dependable flow and correct TV-cable operation, this Ortopia all-metal screen kit is tailored to your needs.
Q: Is this filter compatible with 1994 4L60E transmissions?
A: No. This Ortopia filter fits TH700-R4 and early 4L60 shallow-pan models only, not 1994+ 4L60E transmissions.
Q: How often should I replace this filter?
A: Replace every 30,000–40,000 miles, using Dexron III or VI fluid and checking TV cable adjustment after service.
