Red Line 75W90 GL-5 is a fully synthetic hypoid gear oil formulated with friction modifiers for clutch-type limited slip differentials, sold in a 1-quart bottle for passenger cars, light trucks and racing use.
Designed as a high-performance replacement for conventional 80W90 or SAE 90 oils, this Red Line formulation delivers durable film strength, thermal stability and controlled friction for many limited slip differentials. It meets API GL-5 and related industrial specifications and includes extra friction modifiers so most clutch-type LSDs achieve proper torque biasing without adding separate additives. It is not intended for most synchromesh manual transmissions where very low friction can interfere with shifting.
The fully synthetic base stocks and an advanced additive package form a robust lubricating film that resists shear and oxidation at high temperatures. This helps maintain tooth and bearing protection during high torque, repeated shock loading, and prolonged use on the track or towing.
This product contains friction modifiers tailored for clutch-type limited slip systems, so most LSD designs will engage properly without additional additives. However, check your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation; a few limited slip units or older designs may require a specific additive or different chemistry.
No — Red Line 75W90 GL-5 is intentionally slippery for differential performance and may cause synchronizer engagement problems in many manual transmissions. Using it where synchronizers depend on higher friction can result in difficult gear changes and premature wear.
Red Line 75W90 GL-5 adheres to API GL-5 and related specs such as GL-6, MT-1, MIL-L-2105E and SAE J2360, and it can serve as a replacement where an 80W90 or SAE 90 differential oil is specified. It’s formulated to satisfy demanding performance applications while providing broad compatibility across many platforms.
Who is this for? Enthusiasts, weekend racers, tow vehicle owners and anyone who needs a high-performance hypoid gear oil for clutch-type limited slip differentials will benefit from Red Line 75W90 GL-5. It’s ideal if you want superior thermal and load protection in a synthetic formulation, but it is not the right choice for most synchromesh transmissions. Always confirm the OEM fluid specification for your differential or consult a technician if you have an uncommon drivetrain design.
Q: Is this oil safe for all limited slip differentials?
A: It contains friction modifiers and suits most clutch-type LSDs, but verify compatibility with your specific differential.
Q: Can I use this in a manual transmission?
A: No. Its low-friction formulation can cause synchronizer issues in many manual transmissions.
