This compact elbow is built for routing air in tight engine bays and intake assemblies where a smooth 90-degree change of direction is required. Constructed from durable PVC, the Spectre 9781 offers a lightweight, corrosion-resistant option for joining two 4" OD tubes. It is sold as a re-usable coupler assembly complete with two stainless steel worm-gear hose clamps for a secure, slip-resistant fit. Note: this part is intended for naturally aspirated or non-boosted applications and is not recommended for turbocharged or supercharged setups.
The 90-degree elbow lets you turn an intake run sharply without fabricating custom piping, saving time and simplifying layout in restricted areas. Its compact PVC profile reduces bulk compared with welded metal elbows and helps position components closer to the firewall or chassis. Installation requires minimal tools and can eliminate the need for additional brackets or adapters.
The coupler body is molded from durable PVC engineered for intake plumbing where heat and chemical exposure are moderate. Two stainless steel worm-gear hose clamps are included to fasten each tube end securely around the coupler. Together these parts create a reliable, clamp-sealed connection that resists loosening from vibration in typical street and mild-performance use.
The Spectre 9781 is not recommended for turbocharged or supercharged applications because PVC and worm-gear clamps can be less reliable under sustained high boost and heat. For boosted systems, choose purpose-built silicone couplers and high-capacity T-bolt clamps or welded metal piping designed for pressurized operation. Using the wrong coupler can lead to slips or air leaks under load.
Installation is straightforward: slide each 4" OD tube onto the elbow ends, position the supplied clamps, and tighten. Periodic checks for clamp torque and PVC condition are recommended, especially after initial heat cycles. If you encounter vibrations or shifting, re-tighten clamps and inspect tube ends for wear.
Who is this for: The Spectre Performance 9781 is suited to DIY mechanics, restorers, and performance hobbyists needing a reliable, low-cost 90° connection for 4" intake tubes in naturally aspirated cars, trucks, or custom projects. It’s ideal when space is tight and a clean, clamp-on solution beats custom piping—just avoid boosted applications and replace if your installation sees extreme heat or pressure.
Q: Does the Spectre 9781 include clamps?
A: Yes — it ships with two stainless steel worm-gear hose clamps sized for 4" outside-diameter connections.
Q: Can I use this elbow on a turbocharged engine?
A: No — the 9781 is not recommended for turbocharged or supercharged systems; use reinforced silicone or metal couplers for boosted setups.
