SPTA T120 heavy-cut 6.5" foam polishing pads are aggressive, grooved polishing sponges designed to remove sanding marks, deep scratches, oxidation and orange peel when used with a rotary or dual-action polisher.
These 3-pack 6.5-inch (face) pads fit a 6-inch (150mm) backing plate and combine a high-density polyurethane foam with cooling grooves and a Velcro-backed hook face for quick changes. Built for compounding, polishing and finishing, the T120 pads balance cut power and heat-management so you can work through heavy paint defects without glazing or burning the surface if used correctly.
The T120 heavy-cut foam uses a denser cell structure and an open groove pattern to carry compound and abrasives while maintaining contact with the paint. That density provides mechanical aggression to break down 1200/1500 grit sanding marks and visible defects faster than softer finishing pads.
The pad’s radial grooves channel excess compound and enable air flow between the foam and paint, which lowers surface temperature during extended passes. Better ventilation reduces glazing and prevents the pad backing from overheating, extending working time and protecting delicate finishes.
Use a compatible heavy-cut compound and start at low speed to spread product, then increase speed to work the defect. Clean the pad regularly during use to remove abrasive buildup and wash with mild soap and water after each job; avoid solvents or alkaline cleaners which can damage foam.
Though built primarily for automotive paint compounding, the pads also work on gelcoat, boat topsides and other painted surfaces where aggressive defect removal is needed. They are suitable for both pros and experienced DIYers who understand polishing techniques and machine control.
Who is this for: The SPTA T120 6.5" heavy-cut pads are aimed at detailers, body shops and car enthusiasts who need a reliable, aggressive pad to correct medium-to-severe paint defects before refinement. If you commonly work with 1200–1500 grit sanded panels, restored older finishes, or prefer a fast-cutting step in your polishing workflow, these pads provide the durability and heat-management features to get the job done. For final gloss and hologram removal, pair them with finer foam or microfiber finishing pads and appropriate polishes.
Q: Do these pads fit a 6-inch backing plate?
A: Yes. The 6.5" face diameter is designed to work with standard 6" (150mm) hook-and-loop backing plates.
Q: Can I use these pads on a dual-action polisher?
A: Yes. They work on both rotary and dual-action polishers, though cutting is more aggressive on a rotary.
