Thetford SmartTote Term Adapter for RV Sewer Hoses — 40540 Compact Leak-Resistant Connector

The Thetford 40540 Term Adapter connects Thetford SmartTote portable waste tanks to many RV sewer fittings, creating a secure, leak-resistant link for faster, cleaner emptying.

Thetford’s 40540 Term Adapter is a compact, purpose-built coupling designed to bridge SmartTote waste tanks with a variety of outlet spigots and sewer hose ends. Lightweight and engineered for a snug fit, the adapter simplifies tank-to-hose connections during disposal and reduces spills, splashes, and fumbling when emptying black or gray water tanks. It’s an accessory-focused solution for RV owners who want a reliable connection without modifying existing equipment.

How does this adapter improve dumping convenience?

By providing a stable, compatible connection between the SmartTote tank outlet and standard sewer hoses, the adapter shortens setup time and minimizes movement while transferring waste. The secure interface keeps the hose aligned during flow, reducing the risk of leakage and the need to constantly hold fittings together.

• Engineered for a snug fit to reduce dislodging during transfer
• Compatible with common RV sewer hose ends and spigots
• Lightweight design that’s simple to attach and remove

Will this work with my SmartTote and campsite sewer setup?

The 40540 Term Adapter is created specifically for Thetford’s SmartTote portable tank interface and aligns with many industry-standard sewer hose connectors. It’s ideal when you need a direct link from the tank outlet to a campground’s sewer inlet or to an extension hose, but always check your hose diameter and fitting type to confirm compatibility.

• Designed for Thetford SmartTote portable waste tanks
• Fits commonly used RV sewer hose fittings and spigots
• Best when paired with matching-diameter hoses for leak-free transfer

How durable and easy to maintain is the adapter?

Manufactured to be lightweight yet durable, the adapter withstands routine use and exposure to campground conditions. Cleaning is quick — rinse after each use and allow to air dry — and the simple construction means there are no small moving parts to jam or wear out.

• Built for repeated connecting and disconnecting during travel
• Low-maintenance: rinse with water and air dry after use
• No complex parts to service or replace

How does the adapter affect storage and portability of my waste system?

The compact dimensions and light weight of the 40540 Term Adapter make it easy to store inside the SmartTote accessory compartment or with other RV plumbing tools. Because it adds minimal bulk, you can keep it on hand without sacrificing trunk or storage space.

• Small footprint that fits RV storage lockers
• Weighs only a few ounces—won’t noticeably increase pack weight
• Designed to stay handy for quick connections on the road
