Vankey 28146 kit is a plug-and-play vacuum pressure switch paired with a heavy-duty 28146 relay to control electric vacuum pumps for brake boosters reliably.
This kit provides the two main electrical components needed to automate, protect, and prolong the life of an electric vacuum pump used with a vehicle brake booster. The preset normally-open pressure sensor turns the pump on when vacuum drops and shuts it off when vacuum is restored, while the included relay directs pump current away from sensitive wiring and switches. Together they simplify installation and improve durability for universal vacuum pump setups.
The 28146 pressure switch monitors manifold or reservoir vacuum and completes its contact at a preset threshold (commonly around 18–22 inHg). When vacuum falls below that range the switch closes and calls the pump to restore pressure; once sufficient vacuum is reached the switch opens, stopping the pump.
The 28146 relay acts as a heavy-duty current carrier that isolates the pump's high amperage draw from the vacuum switch and vehicle wiring. Using the relay reduces heat and wear on small connectors and the ignition switch, improving overall circuit safety and longevity.
Installation is designed to be accessible: the kit pairs a vacuum switch with a four-terminal relay and includes a wiring guide for the pump, battery, ground, and switch connections. Basic hand tools, some electrical connectors, and a short vacuum hose are typically all you need to fit the parts to most universal vacuum pump systems.
Both the pressure switch and the 28146 relay are built to withstand the heat, vibration, and moisture found in engine bays. Rugged housings and metal terminals help ensure reliable electrical and pneumatic performance over time, making the kit suitable for daily-driven vehicles and specialty builds.
Who is this for: The Vankey 28146 Electric Vacuum Pump Switch & Relay Kit is aimed at car owners, mechanics, and fabricators installing or upgrading electric vacuum pump systems for brake boosters. It suits anyone needing a dependable automatic control and circuit protection solution—especially in retrofit or custom brake assist applications where a universal, easy-to-wire switch and relay are required.
Q: Will this switch work with any electric vacuum pump?
A: Yes — the normally-open 28146 switch and relay are compatible with most universal electric vacuum pumps when wired per the included diagram.
Q: Do I need extra parts to install the kit?
A: You may need vacuum hose, connectors, and basic electrical terminals; the kit contains the switch and relay but not hoses or fasteners.
