The VIVOHOME HVAC Refrigerant Freon Leak Detector is a portable electronic sensor that finds halogenated refrigerant leaks quickly using an adjustable sensitivity probe and built-in dual-color LED light.
This compact leak detector is designed for HVAC technicians, automotive mechanics, and homeowners who need a fast way to locate refrigerant escapes in air conditioning, refrigeration, and heat pump systems. It recognizes a broad range of halogenated gases — including common HFCs, HFOs, CFCs and HCFCs — and combines a flexible probe, audible alarms, and visual indicators so you can work in tight or dimly lit spaces. The unit includes a carrying bag for transport and operates on AAA batteries for field portability.
The sensor is calibrated to detect halogenated refrigerants rather than measuring specific chemical signatures. It reacts to gas concentration changes and signals leaks by increasing alarm speed and light flashes as the gas level rises. This makes it suitable for locating leaks across a variety of refrigerants used in modern systems.
The detector includes a 7.9-inch bendable probe that lets you reach seals, joints and tight engine bays. A dual-color LED provides white light for visibility and ultraviolet illumination to reveal fluorescent leak dyes. Together these features reduce guesswork when tracing leak paths.
The unit offers seven sensitivity levels and auto-adjusts to changing gas concentrations for rapid response. Normal low-level detections produce intermittent beeps and flashes; nearer or larger leaks trigger rapid beeps (up to 10 per second) and a louder 85 dB alarm so you can hear alerts over workshop noise. Note that condensation or liquid contact can cause false readings, so follow operation tips to keep results accurate.
The detector runs on four AAA batteries (not included) and provides long field endurance when charged fresh. It requires a brief warm-up in fresh air to establish a baseline and then reacts to leaks within seconds. LED indicators show operational readiness and battery status so you know when to replace cells for consistent accuracy.
Who is this for? The VIVOHOME HVAC Refrigerant Freon Leak Detector suits HVAC service professionals, automotive AC technicians and experienced DIYers who need a portable, easy-to-use tool for locating halogen-based refrigerant leaks. It’s built for field use, offering flexibility, visual assistance, and adjustable sensitivity to handle a range of systems and environments without relying on complex calibration or external power.
Q: Which refrigerants can this detector find?
A: It detects halogenated refrigerants including HFCs (R134a, R410a, R32), HFOs (R1234yf), plus CFCs and HCFCs.
Q: How long does it take to warm up and respond to a leak?
A: Warm-up is about 6 seconds in fresh air; the unit responds to leaks in roughly 3 seconds.
