WeatherTech BumpStep 12" Hitch-Mounted Step for 2" Receiver — 300 lb Capacity, Non-Slip Bumper Protection

The WeatherTech BumpStep 12" is a hitch-mounted step that protects your rear bumper from impacts while giving you a sturdy platform to reach roof racks and cargo.

Compact, robust and made in the USA, the BumpStep installs into a standard 2" receiver and serves dual roles: a protective bumper buffer and a reliable step rated for everyday use. Built from heavy-gauge steel with a textured, non-slip surface, it reduces damage from low-speed rear collisions and provides practical access for loading gear, cleaning the roof, or securing bikes and kayaks.

How does the BumpStep protect my vehicle during low-speed impacts?

The BumpStep absorbs and redirects contact away from painted bumper surfaces and trim, minimizing dents and scratches that commonly occur in parking situations. Its robust construction creates a sacrificial point of contact that is easier and cheaper to repair than bodywork.

• Heavy-gauge steel core resists bending and spreading impact force.
• Mounts solidly to a 2" hitch for consistent protection across vehicles.
• Textured surface prevents slippage if contacted during an impact.
• Removable design lets you replace the step instead of repairing the bumper.

Will it provide a safe step to reach roof racks and cargo?

Yes — the 12" wide platform is engineered to support up to 300 lb, offering a stable foothold when accessing roof-mounted equipment or performing vehicle maintenance. The step’s tread pattern and width create a secure standing area even in wet or snowy conditions.

• 12" wide step platform for balanced footing.
• Non-slip textured finish for improved traction in all weather.
• Supports up to 300 lb for confident access to roof gear.
• Low-profile design keeps it from obstructing departure angles.

Is the BumpStep easy to install and compatible with my hitch?

Installation is straightforward: slide the unit into any standard 2" receiver and secure it using the included mounting hardware. No special tools or vehicle modifications are required, and it fits most trucks and SUVs equipped with a 2" hitch.

• Designed for standard 2" receiver hitches common on trucks and SUVs.
• Comes with standard hardware for a secure, wobble-minimized fit.
• Quick install/removal for use only when needed or for storage.
• Durable finish resists corrosion from road salt and moisture.

How durable is the BumpStep and what maintenance does it need?

Constructed in the USA from heavy-duty materials and finished to resist the elements, the BumpStep is built for long-term service with minimal upkeep. Occasional cleaning and inspection of the hitch pin and fasteners will keep it functioning reliably.

• Powder-coated/stamped finish protects against rust and chips.
• Steel construction withstands routine bumps and loading tasks.
• Simple maintenance: wipe clean and check hardware periodically.
• Replaceable mounting hardware if components wear over time.

Who this is for: the WeatherTech BumpStep 12" suits truck and SUV owners who want an affordable way to shield their rear bumper while gaining safe roof access. It's ideal for outdoor enthusiasts who frequently load kayaks or bikes, drivers who park in tight spaces, and anyone seeking a rugged, made-in-USA hitch accessory that blends everyday convenience with practical impact protection.
